We don&#8217;t design computers from scratch as the would be wasteful. Instead, we buy an already built computer, write software, and put it in that block on the diagram.<\/p>\n<p>So what? No one cares any more. Still, back in the 1980s, the idea of a drop-in computer was revolutionary.<\/p>\n<p>And the single-board computer is still important and is still evolving. See <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Single-board_computer\">this <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_single_board_computers\">that <\/a>from Wikipedia.<\/p>\n<p>And if that isn&#8217;t enough, look at the new developments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Raspberry Pi<\/li>\n<li>Intel New Unit of Computing<\/li>\n<li>Cubieboard<\/li>\n<li>PC-On-A-Stick<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The last one in the list floors me. What could be better?<\/p>\n<p>The future of the single-board computer looks bright.
