It has haunted college professors for decades.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>They can read it at home<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So why &#8220;lecture?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I remember the TV show &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Room_222\">Room 222<\/a>.&#8221; The cool teachers didn&#8217;t teach like my teachers. Their students read the boring stuff from the textbooks at home. Classes were all free-wheeling discussions\u2014F U N! Well, it was just a TV show, and we all knew that TV and reality just weren&#8217;t the same.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward from 1969 to today. All the knowledge in the world is online\u2014free to read at your leisure.<\/p>\n<p>So what does a &#8220;teacher&#8221; do &#8220;in class?&#8221; That is for each teacher to figure out as an exercise on their own (I hated to hear that assignment; I love to assign it.).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Dwayne Phillips One thing teachers today have to realize is that the learners can read it all at home at their leisure.
