{"id":2897,"date":"2019-05-30T01:22:34","date_gmt":"2019-05-30T06:22:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dwaynephillips.net\/workingup\/?p=2897"},"modified":"2019-05-18T08:32:09","modified_gmt":"2019-05-18T13:32:09","slug":"perhaps-we-should-hire-a-secretary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dwaynephillips.net\/workingup\/2019\/05\/perhaps-we-should-hire-a-secretary\/","title":{"rendered":"Perhaps We Should Hire a Secretary"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">by Dwayne Phillips<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>It is an old concept, the secretary or admin assistant, but are we misusing our resources?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I remember when there where persons in the workplace called &#8220;secretaries.&#8221; I remember when we stopped using that title and started using &#8220;administrative assistant&#8221; instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I find it unfortunate that we often have other persons now performing these jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you tell an engineer or computer scientist to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>manage budgets<\/li><li>keep spreadsheets<\/li><li>attend telephone calls<\/li><li>handle visitors<\/li><li>maintain websites<\/li><li>arrange travel<\/li><li>prepare expense reports<\/li><li>take notes in meetings<\/li><li>arrange meetings<\/li><li>proof read documents<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ooops, Wikipedia lists these as duties performed by secretaries. So, how are we managing our resources? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps we should hire a secretary. A person trained and skilled at these things.
