Dwayne Phillips ' Day Book
Items
I happen to view each day. Science, Techonology, Management, Culture,
and of course Writing
This is my day book for this week. I have modeled this after science
fiction and computer writer Jerry Pournelle's view, or as he calls it,
his Day Book.
I encourage you to see Jerry
Pournelle's site
and subscribe
to his services.

AT&T and Intel team to test drones over LTE networks.

Bruce Schneier on the Apple-FBI dispute. Worth the time reading.
This goes on and on as our Justice Department wants to conscript Apple in a dozen other cases.
Mark Zuckerburg perhaps learns that the world outside the rich kids of Harvard might be a different place.
Bill Gates' annual open letter is addressed to high school students encouraging energy research.
Huntsville, Alabama is the latest winner in Google Fiber services. Why not Reston, Virginia?
Linux Mint site is hacked; people are downloading malware versions.
A detailed explanation of why SpaceX tries to land its booster on a barge instead of dry land.
In case you haven't noticed, retailers in the US have not shifted to read chip-embedded credit cards. Let the persecutions (prosecutions?) begin.

The government of Malaysia is courting Apple to open R&D centers. They don't seem to be worried about tax rates.
Boston Dynamics shows off a new biped Atlas robot. Yes, the military is interested, but there are many rescue and disaster recover missions as well.
Researchers create WiFi that uses three and four orders of magnitude less power enabling mobile devices.
The story of a California company that used dozens of unpaid interns to make million$.
The need for "crazy people" to start the next next next Silicon Valley.

LinkedIn to show a TV commercial. I am not sure what they will advertise or encourage.
Commercials everywhere: Microsoft Windows 10 shows ads in lock screens.
"Experts" constantly over-estimating world economic growth.
Apple will claim that programming source code falls under free speech. They aren't the first to do so. Earlier claims have held up for decades (free as in speech, not beer).
Deep Mind Health: a Google division moves to apply deep learning to health care.
Part of Britain's government is unhappy with the tax settlement another part made with Google.
Intel commits a $13.million gift to CODE2040. Discriminating to end disciminating is still problematic.

Google and Vizio team to put Chromecast functions in TVs.
HP's PC and printer sales are falling in double-digits.

Yahoo open sourced its CaffeOnSpark AI engine.
Project "Madison Valleywood"—America's advertising and Internet minds versus ISIS.
More rumors about the next iPad models.
Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and others to support Apple in court filings. Interesting as our government enlists these to fight terrorism while fighting them all in US court.
GovtOS: what Apple calls that thing the FBI wants it to develop at no cost to the FBI.
The executive director of the Wikimedia Foundation resigns. When people give money to maintain an encyclopeida, they don't want the money to go to other pet projects.
People like Mark Zuckerburg, but don't trust Facebook. I guess this means something to those people who study these things.
Little-known but useful Google products.
