It is a Monday after a Friday holiday weekend in the US of A. Let's see if
the world has commenced spinning on its axis yet.
In
the UK, with all their worries of brain drain with Brexit, the year of
the virus shows that Europeans can telecommute across national borders
with ease. Nation states? What were those?
Facebook
spends some of its money on education in India.
Elon
Musk is one of the early plutocrats to create their own private schools
for their own children. Now he has extended it to an online, for-profit
school. I think this will become a trend.
Uber
is buying Postmates (they deliver food) for a cool $2.6Billion. And
where does Uber get this type of money?

Our
Immigration and Customs Enforcement says that students in the US on visas
must take in-person classes. All online is not permitted.
Researchers
monitor social media and predict virus outbreaks. People simply post on
social media about how they feel when they wake in morning.
Fraunhofer—one
of the world’s most important digital media compression
pioneers—announced a new video compression standard named VVC or H.266.
Seth Godin on
the 100-hour and the 1,000-hour assets. Invest in a skill and increase
value.

Disney

Tech
companies react to new laws in Hong Kong. They don't seem to
understand the situation or their place in it. In China, people simply
disappear.

Real
news that isn't news: big tech companies have thousands of little
contracts with government agencies in the US.
T-Mobile
has 5G coverage that is much bigger than any other provider in the US.
Zoom—our
favorite way to see one another in the year of the virus—is now offering
a hardware solution for "Zoom Rooms."
Here
comes the Thunderbolt 4!
Qualcomm
updates its Snapdragon 865 to "865 Plus" for more power in mobile gaming.
Coming
real soon now from Microsoft are new features to help fight "Teams
fatigue." We could use it.

The
Chicago Police Department closes access to its arrest records. This
may be a cover up or simply an attempt by public to keep (embarrassing)
public records away from the public who purchased them.
Once
again Elon Musk says that Tesla will have self-driving cars real soon
now.
Facebook
makes lots of money when President Trump writes things that violates
Facebook's policy. People don't seem to grasp policy #1: make money.
This will
take a while to understand, but it seems that our Supreme Court has
ruled that about half of Oklahoma belongs to Indian tribes, not the
state of Oklahoma.
In
the year of the virus, when we all work and school from home, PC sales
are up.
Got
$3,899? Get this Canon camera with a 45MegaPixel sensor. Shoot 8K video.
Does anyone have a display that will show 8K?
Dell
updates its XPS desktop computers. Do you think they could put a ruler
next to the machine in the photo so we can see how big it is?
Twitter
billionaire Jack Dorsey will fund a universal basic income experiment.
Good. Don't send tax dollars to a government where 50% will be removed.
Send it directly to people.

Little happening in the world. The year of the pandemic has brought us a
different type of dog days of summer.
Strong
rumors about an Apple laptop with Apple Silicon coming before Christmas.
"domestic
violence cases are on the rise not just in the US, but worldwide,
according to an April report from The New York Times. Many abuse victims
have been quarantined with their abusers, and lockdown orders make it
difficult for them to escape." You thought this stay-at-home,
work-at-home, still be paid was without cost?
Speculating
on the future of Ham Radio.
Foxconn
to invest $1Billion in India to expand a factory.
Mental
and emotional stress caused by everyone staying home is becoming
evident. It was predictable and predicted.
Just in time...after 25 years, Gary
Larsen brings new Far Side commentary.

The
nuclear submarine and the submariners provide lessons for deep-space
explorers. Will NASA listen to the Navy?
Microsoft
and Google team to bring more apps to Android.
Disney
World opens. Just in time for summer heat and afternoon thunderstorms.
It
is about time. The Linux world removes "master/salve" and other terms. I
wrote of this 30 years ago. There are many more to be changed now that
we are in a global economy. Remember "Turtle Graphics?" It has to go.
Apple
make more tools available free to school teachers. Nice gesture, but
let's not be naive. More persons who know how t program means lower
salaries for programmers, and Apple pays a lot of money to programmers.
Tips
for freelance writing in the year of the virus and any other year.
The memoir: "Write something universal as illustrated by a deeply
personal tale."
